- Build — own the system of record with custom software when your process is the advantage.

It is especially useful before you burn another quarter of runway on seats that will not become your system of record, or before you commission a custom build that a light platform customize could have covered.
When to use the Softix calculator
Open the tool when any of these are true:

How Softix frames Build vs Buy vs Customize

What the interactive fields actually mean
The live calculator ships with starter Softix-oriented defaults that are kept low and fully editable. They are deliberately approachable figures for US SMBs with Lahore delivery, not a catalog of Softix prices. Raise any field to match your stack.
Published starter defaults on the tool (as of this writing):
- Buy: SaaS $25 per user per month
- Buy: one-time setup $1,500
- Build: Softix-style first release $12,000
- Build: annual maintenance 12%
- Build: hosting/ops $600 per year
- Customize: light customize $4,500
- Customize: seat $30 per user per month
- Seat growth 8% per year
Those are starter defaults only. If your SaaS is $80/user or your first release is a multi-integration ops system, change the fields. The point of the tool is the comparison math, not the placeholder dollars.
How to interpret the results
Treat the output as a planning sketch:
- Cheapest is not automatically correct. A Buy path can win TCO and still fail if you cannot own the workflow or the data model.
- Seat growth is the silent killer. The 8% default is conservative. If you hire aggressively, raise it and watch Customize and Buy pull away from a fixed first-release build.
- Maintenance and hosting are part of Build. A first-release figure without 12% annual maintenance and hosting/ops understates the multi-year picture.
- Customize is not free SaaS. Light customize plus a higher seat price can still beat a rebuild in year one and lose later — or the reverse. Run both horizons.

A practical way to run the session
Block 20 minutes with whoever owns the budget and whoever owns the workflow:
- Enter your real seat count and real SaaS price, not the default $25.
- Put your actual onboarding or implementation invoice in the Buy setup field.

What this tool will not do
